How to Effectively Eliminate Dog Worms

It is essential to have the knowledge and understanding on how to treat dog worms for proper pet care. The worms treatment should always start with the heartworms. You can use some herbal remedies and medicines to treat the heartworms since some of this medicines that treat heartworms also treat whipworms, roundworms, and hookworms. The only worms that will not be treated by these remedies are tapeworms. Some of the drugs that were used for deworming dogs traditionally are ProHeart, Interceptor, and Heartgard Plus. Pyrantel pamoate and ivermectin are the two powerful dewormers found in Heartgard Plus used for a treatment of specific worms.

It is vital to heed that no one medication can kill all the worms. Each worm requires a specific medicine so as to achieve effective results. Ivermectin or pyrantel pamoate suspension can be used to treat roundworms. Panacur, Vercom Paste, and Drontal Plus can be used to kill whipworms, hookworms, and roundworms. Vercom and Drontal can be used to kill tapeworms though Drontal should not be given to puppies or dogs that are less than three weeks or weigh less than two pounds. Panacur and Vercom should be given in three consecutive days and repeated in two to four weeks to achieve full effectiveness.

Grapefruit seeds offer a natural alternative in combating worms. They weaken, repel, and kill parasites. You should grind the seed from fresh grapefruits, limes, lemons, oranges, or any citrus fruit and add the ground powder to food.

Parsley

Another straightforward method that can be used to treat worms in dogs is using ground fresh parsley. This should be added to a quarter cup of water and cooked for three minutes. Drain and freeze in ice cube trays. Add one teaspoon of the liquid per 10 pounds of body weight once in a day. The rest can be kept in a freezer as used as need arises.

Other Nutrition-Based Treatments

Finely grated sources of vitamin A can be used to treat worms. Such sources include collard greens, pumpkins, beet greens, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Add these finely grated sources to the diet of the dog for three days and repeat every six to seven weeks. Minerals and vitamins from these sources are essential in cleaning the digestive tract and removing roundworms.
